Full Description

Our client is a local authority based in Hertfordshire and they need to appoint an experienced Strategic Planning Manager to join them for a contract role. This will initially be a 6 month contract and you will support the Director of Place to achieve our clients timetable in delivering their recently approved Local Development Scheme.

You will lead a team of Officers on all planning policy matters including supervising the development of the Council's local plan policies and projects. The role will require the job holder to provide advice, prepare reports and brief elected Members as appropriate, including representation at Cabinet and Council when required.

Key areas of focus

• Scope and produce the initial, formal consultation on the new Local Plan ('Regulation 18'), including key issues and broad policy directions etc. due to be held in Autumn 2025
• Commission and / or supervise formal evidence studies required to support this and the subsequent steps of the Local Plan
• Manage key relationships on cross-border planning matters with the surrounding local planning authorities as well as working with other key stakeholders as required

To apply you will need to have a significant level of previous planning policy experience and ideally proven line management experience to be considered. You will need to have a good breadth of knowledge in relation to policy development and you will need a thorough understanding of UK planning legislation. A relevant degree level qualification is essential and ideally you will have professional accreditation.

Critical to this role will be the ability to communicate effectively and to engage in negotiations that can often be sensitive and complex so you will need to be able to engage productively with third parties to develop good relationships that ensure successful development. You will be working with a wide range of stakeholders and can expect to come into contact with elected members, statutory and non-statutory bodies, developers and public stakeholders.

The rate offered is £65/hr Umbrella and the role is inside IR35. Our client offers hybrid working with 1-2 days a week in the office.
