Our client is busy Local Authority based in London, and they are seeking an experienced Deputy Area Planning Manager to join their Development Management team for a contract role.
You will deputise for the Area Planning Manager as necessary and assume responsibility for the management and performance of an area team of between 5 and 6 professional staff in all aspects of development management particularly in meeting targets for processing applications, appeals, tree related matters and responses to MP enquiries, Member Enquiries and complaints. The post may be required to manage additional staff when required. When deputising to allocate new planning applications and to make decisions on all applications in accordance with the Council’s Constitution. The role will include servicing the Planning Committee by ensuring reports are completed to a high standard to deadline and to present major and complex cases to Committee when required. In addition, the post holder will be expected to hold a small caseload planning applications.
Applicants for this post must be qualified Town Planners with experience of local authority town planning. Your strong technical knowledge of UK planning legislation will need to be complimented with good management skills and the confidence and ability to direct a team. Critical to this role will be the ability to communicate effectively and to engage in negotiations that can often be sensitive and complex so you will need to be able to engage productively with third parties to develop good relationships that ensure successful development. Ideally, our client needs a candidate with strong majors experience and preferably recent London experience given the need to engage with the GLA, and there would need to be an acute understanding of the latest London Plan.
This is initially a 3 month contract but it could be extended beyond this and the rate offered will depend on your experience. Our client is open to having discussions around rates. This role is inside IR35.
This is a hybrid role with 2 days in the office, 3 days at home.
